A new $100m cyber security centre is set to open in New York next year.
New York is pushing to lead the world in becoming a leading cyber security hub, this year attracting firms with a $30m initiative.
New York City officials recently announced a plan to convert two buildings in lower Manhattan’s Soho into a Global Cyber Centre.
The plan is prominently backed by business networking company, SOSA.
Cyber security paramount
Part of the centre’s mission will be to stop global cyber crime and other nefarious activities online. The centre will bring together an international community of investors, corporations and start-ups to expand the cybersecurity community, the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), stated.
“New York City needs to be ambitious about cyber security because our future depends on it,” said NYCEDC’s president and CEO, James Patchett. “The new centre will create 10,000 middle-class jobs.”
The new cyber security centre is planned to be operational by early 2019.
