Technology consulting firm Accenture carried out a data breach survey with 1000 UK participants. The results were that 78% of people believe that healthcare providers have a big responsibility keeping digital healthcare secure, and 40% disagree, as they believe that it is their personal responsibility.

The survey shows that 56% of participants were data theft victims, with the medical information mainly being stolen from pharmacies, other than hospitals. More than 75% of those victims had to pay around £172 per incident to get them out of trouble.

“The time to assure consumers that their personal data is in secure, capable hands is now,” said Aimie Chapple, Managing Director of UK Accenture.
“When a breach occurs, healthcare payers and providers should be able to swiftly notify those affected, with a plan of action on how to remedy the situation and prevent it from happening again.”
