Nuance delivers AI – powered security solution

A leading company in conversational AI innovations has announced it will be releasing a new product that uses biometrics to detect fraud and prevent security problems.

 

Nuance Communications, Inc. is the designer of the Nuance Gatekeeper, which uses biometrics to both authenticate customers and enable fraud detection. The product will be available through a fully scalable cloud service.

 

A recent survey from Nuance found 1 in 4 people have fallen victim to fraud in the last twelve months, each person losing an average of $2,000 due to inefficient passwords. Therefore, the product has been designed to help customers protect themselves against fraudsters as places see a rise in cybercrime. It’s hoped that by moving to a modern security method, older and less secure approaches will become obsolete.

How it works

 

To use the security device, company customers will be asked to confirm their identity using either voice or text channels that have a unique set of characteristics saved for them.

 

“Biometrics provide the power to secure individuals based on who they are rather than what they know. If hacked, data in the form of biometric templates is far less valuable than stored passwords because they are almost impossible to replicate,” said Dan Miller, Lead Analyst, Opus Research.

 

“Organisations of all sizes are fighting to stay ahead of fraudsters and the increasing threat posed by synthetic impersonation. Companies find cloud-native security models to be more attractive because they are accessible, scalable and offer access to real-time updates to the newest fraud-fighting algorithms.” Miller continued.

Using biometrics

 The more advanced version of Nuance will contain a quicker cloud – native platform, a fast-paced AI-powered voice biometrics engine, personalised biometric models, and will flag suspicious behavioural biometrics.

 

“Biometrics is the future of identification and we see it as the golden ticket for organisations that want to enhance security for customers without negatively impacting the engagement experience,” said Brett Beranek, GM Security Business, Nuance Enterprise Division.

 

Beranek added, “With Gatekeeper, we offer more advanced layers of protection to organisations big and small by bringing AI to the forefront and combining traditional biometrics methods with some that are newer to market – and all of it is now accessible in a cloud-native environment.”
