Cyberattacks to have targeted French monitoring software

It was recently reported by France’s cybersecurity watchdog that cyberattackers have targeted monitoring software made by the French company Centreon.

Indeed, the watchdog, called ANSSI, couldn’t identify the hackers but stated that they had similar tactics as the Russian cyberespionage group nicknamed “Sandworm.”

The company targeting specializes in information technology monitoring, which makes it a perfect target and source of information for digital spies. While the US is still trying to find out who was responsible for the SolarWinds’ attack, it was hinted that other firms might be targeted in similar ways.

ANSSI reported that they didn’t know the initial vector for the campaign of intrusions but that it had discovered intrusions dating from 2017 up to 2020. The victims were not identified as well yet they said that it was mainly IT services firms.

However, Centreon has more than 600 enterprise clients across the world, including the French Ministry of justice.
