Amazon to be testing robots to improve workers’ safety

Amazon recently announced that it was testing new robots that should help improve employee safety within its warehouses.

Indeed, one of the robots is an Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR) that is able to navigate through the facilities and carry large and heavy items across a site. Another bot is a workstation system that can remove totes from robotic shelves and delivers them directly to employees.

By doing so, the company aims to reduce the workload of human coworkers and avoid putting them in harm’s way. This should then help make the facilities safer for employees. The company is hoping to deploy the robots later this year and around many sites in the US.

Amazon made the decision to test robots for its warehouses after growing concerns about workers’ safety were heard. Indeed, it was reported that workers suffering from serious injury were almost 80% higher at the company than in the rest of the industry.

This solution should then improve the workers’ conditions without replacing them completely.
